When I found out that a colleague of mine was running a non-stop 108 mile race I thought it must be wrong. However mad it sounded, it actually turned out to be true. At this point I couldn’t really not sponsor him. Dave Wyatt is a colleague of mine known to test himself to the limits. This time it was to be the Spine Challenger Race – http://thespinerace.com/
The Spine Challenger Race is a non-stop 108 mile foot race from Edale to Hawes along the Pennine way in winter. (This is the short version by the way – the full race is 248 miles).
The race starts this weekend at 8am on Saturday and he expects to be done by Sunday night. The man is a machine.
As a little extra motivation he is also raising money for a local charity which he is involved with – Oldham Mountain Rescue Team. The team relies completely on donations and fundraising to exist and is run by 50 or so volunteers who give up their time to help others.
Not one team member gets paid for this ‘work’ unlike all the other emergency services. They do it because they enjoy being out in the wild, often in difficult conditions.
If you want to add a couple of pounds to his sponsor page to encourage Dave and help the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team you can do so here: http://www.justgiving.com/DavidSpineRace
UPDATE: Dave completed the race and finished in 9th place. See photo above of him during the 108 mile Spine Challenger Race.
