IDONATED… to the Prince’s Trust’s ‘Million Makers Challenge’ by attending Manchester Music Makers 2

A good friend of mine, Rob Lyons, invited me to the Manchester Music Makers 2 event which he organised with colleagues from Hill Dickinson’s Manchester office.

The charity event, named ‘Manchester Music Makers 2’ cost £10 for a ticket and featured bands and artists from the Manchester business community, clients and contacts of Hill Dickinson including Hill Dickinson’s very own in-house band, and was held at Band on the Wall in Manchester’s Northern Quarter on 30 October 2014.

The music was fantastic and was all in aid of a good cause, the Prince’s Trust. The event raised around £7,000 in donations; this was made up of ticket sales, a raffle, battle of the bands voting and other fundraising initiatives.

IDONATED… to MIND Manchester for the City of Salford 10k

After completing the One Bolton 5k in 2012 and the Great Manchester Cycle Marathon in 2013, it was time for me to test myself with another race challenge. I have always said I would like to complete a 5k, 10k, half marathon and then potentially one day, a marathon.

Simone and I were very close to entering the Great Manchester 10k run earlier this year but the cost of the event put me off, especially when I found out none of the cost goes towards helping any charities. We recently heard about the City of Salford 10k from two friends who had signed up to it (ROTTY).

Around 3 weeks before the event we decided to sign up, start training and take it on.

We set up a JustGiving page (https://www.justgiving.com/salford-10k) and decided to run the 10k for MIND Manchester. We started to try and get sponsors between the four of us and it was all about GAZONE vs ROTTY!

I hate running, so training wasn’t an enjoyable process but as I got a few 5k’s under my belt and my fitness improved I started to realise that completing the 10k was without doubt something which I could achieve.

Our aim was to complete the 10k in under an hour. We felt this was a reasonable time and this would be a big achievement for all of us so this become the target!

On the 7th September we completed the City of Salford 10k. My time for the 10k was 55:59, and we all completed it in under an hour which we were all really proud of!

Our target was to raise £400 for MIND Manchester and on the day of the race we were at around £260. A week after the race we smashed our target which currently stands at £432.93.

A huge thank you goes to the 34 people who have sponsored us and therefore donated to MIND Manchester. The work they do helps give people with mental health problems the help and support they need.

If you would like to sponsor us you can do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/salford-10k

IDONATED… to MND Association for the Ice Bucket Challenge

What is the Ice Bucket Challenge?

Get someone to pour a bucket of ice cold water over your head then nominate three other people to do it to raise money for ALS Association (in the USA) and MND Association (in the UK).  Oh, and film it and share it on social media with the hashtag #IceBucketChallenge for the purpose of spreading the campaign and raising awareness of the disease. People are asked to donate $10 if they do it and $100 if they decline.

Accept or Decline the Challenge?

I was nominated on Facebook by Mark Sharp with 3 other Computerlovers on the 21st August 2014. We accepted the challenge and I donated £10 to MND Association on 22nd August 2014. See the video evidence below, enjoy.

IDONATED… to Neurosupport & CAVSG sponsoring Sam Kennedy’s Tough Mudder

I first heard about Tough Mudder about 4 months ago when it was basically described to me as an army training boot camp style assault course with a difference (receiving electric shocks while crawling through mud was mentioned).

When a good friend of mine Samantha Kennedy got in touch with me to tell me she was taking on Tough Mudder to raise money for Neurosupport & Cheshire Asbestos Victim Support Group (CAVSG) my first though was that she is completely mad. However I happily sponsored her via her Virgin Giving page to wish her good luck and help her try and reach the £5000 target she and the company she works for set themselves.

Sam and the Slater & Gordon Manchester and Liverpool team are taking on Tough Mudder on the 13th September 2014 and if you would like to help them reach their target you can do so here: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/SG-ToughMudder-NW

Good luck on the day Sam!

IDONATED… to Freedom for Torture for the Code Curry Lunch

Organised by Viv as part of the Giving Events project, I attended the Code Curry Lunch on Tuesday. The event was created to help raise money for Freedom for Torture. Everyone who attended was asked to make donations to the charity.

Around 30 people attended. The food was cooked by Di, Helen, Mark C, Ali and Viv and was excellent but the most important part was raising £145 for the charity.
